Certified wind energy training

GWO BTT overview & accreditation

The global wind energy sector is growing rapidly. To minimize operational risks and safeguard personnel on both onshore and offshore wind farms, leading industry stakeholders established the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) standard.

SBM is an officially recognized and certified training provider for these safety standards. Upon completion of the GWO Basic Technical Training, delegates acquire essential hands-on knowledge to identify, mitigate, and control technical hazards when working on hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical equipment.

All GWO standards and framework specifications are managed globally by the Global Wind Organisation. You can verify SBM’s active accreditation status directly on their official platform.

Core technical hazards and safety

GWO BTT Objectives & Scope

Upon completing the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) Basic Technical Training (BTT), delegates learn to control and mitigate hazards across hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and bolt systems. This prepares candidates directly for safe onshore and offshore operations in the wind energy industry.

Aims and Objectives:

  • Hazard Awareness: Recognize and manage technical hazards related to electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and bolt-tightening systems.
  • Safety Protocols: Apply official GWO safety procedures and correctly utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Supervised Practice: Perform basic technical maintenance tasks safely under the direct supervision of an experienced technician.

(Note: Completing this training prepares candidates for supervised field work and serves as the technical baseline for wind energy personnel.)

GWO Basic Training Modules

Stand-alone certified course units

These training modules can be delivered independently of one another or as stand-alone training packages:

  • Hydraulic Module (BBTH): Basic hydraulic circuits, pressure relief valves, pumps, fluid power safety, and high-pressure component inspection.
  • Mechanical Module (BBTM): Mechanical systems, hazard mitigation, gearboxes, and safe mechanical maintenance procedures.
  • Electrical Module (BBTE): Core electrical safety principles, reading circuit diagrams, using digital multimeters, and component troubleshooting.
  • Bolt Tightening Module (BBTB): Specialized practical skills for safe, correct, and certified bolt-tightening techniques in turbine structures.
